What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, translated as the “Science of Life,” is a comprehensive system of medicine that originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It is recognized as one of the oldest continuously practiced medical traditions in the world. Rooted in both philosophy and clinical application, Ayurveda provides a complete framework for understanding health, disease, and healing.

At its foundation, Ayurveda views each person as a unique expression of nature, with an individual constitution (prakriti) that influences physical, mental, and emotional tendencies. Health is defined not simply as the absence of disease, but as a dynamic state of balance—between body, mind, spirit, and environment. When this equilibrium is disrupted by diet, lifestyle, stress, or other factors, symptoms and illness can arise.

Ayurveda addresses these imbalances by identifying root causes and offering targeted therapies to restore harmony. Diagnostic methods may include:

  • A detailed health history and discussion of symptoms
  • Pulse, tongue, and physical examination
  • Assessment of digestion, sleep, stress, and energy patterns

Treatment is highly individualized and may involve:

  • Nutrition & Digestion: Food as medicine, with specific dietary guidance tailored to your constitution and current imbalances
  • Lifestyle & Daily Routines: Structured practices to support circadian rhythms, resilience, and longevity
  • Herbal Formulas: Classical preparations to strengthen, cleanse, or rejuvenate the body
  • Body Therapies: Specialized treatments such as Abhyanga (therapeutic oil massage), Shirodhara (oil therapy for the nervous system), and other classical modalities

Ayurveda is a living science, practiced worldwide and increasingly supported by modern research for its effectiveness in areas such as digestion, stress reduction, metabolic health, and chronic disease management. It is both preventative and therapeutic, offering tools for maintaining vitality as well as restoring health.

Ultimately, Ayurveda empowers individuals to better understand themselves and their unique needs. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but a deeply personalized system that honors the whole person while providing practical, time-tested strategies for healing and well-being.

What It’s Like to Work With Me

When you begin your journey in Ayurveda with me, you’ll receive care that is both compassionate and deeply rooted in classical training. My goal is to help you reconnect with your body’s innate wisdom and create lasting change through personalized guidance.

Areas of Specialty

While I welcome individuals with a wide variety of health concerns, I have a particular focus on women’s health and digestive wellness. This includes:

  • Menstrual disorders and irregular cycles
  • PCOD/PCOS and infertility support
  • Perimenopause and menopause transitions
  • Thyroid imbalance
  • Digestive concerns, including IBS and related conditions

Ayurveda provides powerful tools to bring balance to these areas, addressing root causes rather than just managing symptoms.

Initial Consultation

All new patients begin with an initial consultation. This is a comprehensive session where we explore your health history, current concerns, and goals for healing. From there, I create an individualized care plan that may include:

  • Dietary Guidance: Aligning food choices with your unique constitution and imbalances
  • Lifestyle Recommendations: Daily routines and practices to restore balance and energy
  • Herbal Support: Thoughtfully chosen formulas to nourish and rebalance the body
  • Body Therapies: Traditional Ayurvedic treatments to support detoxification, relaxation, and rejuvenation

This initial consultation is required before participating in any Ayurvedic bodywork sessions or cleanse programs, ensuring that all treatments are safe, personalized, and truly effective.

Ongoing Care & Bodywork

As your healing journey unfolds, we may integrate Ayurvedic body therapies such as Abhyanga (therapeutic oil massage), Shirodhara (warm oil therapy for the mind and nervous system), and other traditional treatments. These therapies are deeply restorative and bring harmony to the body and mind.

Whether you are seeking support for specific women’s health concerns, relief from digestive imbalances, or simply a deeper connection with your natural rhythms, working together offers a space for healing, balance, and transformation.
