Katelyn Kalstein, ND

Naturopathic Doctor located in Santa Monica, CA

Dr. Katelyn Kalstein is a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine with a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. She specializes in stress-related disorders, mindbody medicine and cardiovascular health. She has additional training in classical homeopathy, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, craniosacral therapy, and biofeedback.

Dr. Kalstein has spent her post-graduate years becoming an expert in mindbody medicine with a special interest in recovering the mind and body from trauma. She is known for her time as Lead Facilitator at 40 Years of Zen, Dave Asprey's (CEO, Bulletproof) intensive neurofeedback center in Seattle. Through facilitating hundreds of individuals, she has developed her own style of depth-work, using conscious coaching, modern science and natural medicines to bring patients to a new level of health, self-awareness, and performance.

Her interest in cardiovascular health came when her step-father had an emergency quintuple coronary artery bypass graft when she was just fifteen (and he was only 45!). Realizing it would be a life-long journey for her step-dad to maintain good health, but believing it was possible, she developed a fascination with the heart - both the physical and the metaphysical aspects. Pre-med at Pepperdine University, she was on the path to becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon when she had a sudden change of heart which lead her to the East. There Dr. Kalstein spent a year in India and Nepal studying Ayurveda and experimenting with many ancient techniques on herself. Now, her approach in medicine is the 'middle way': using Western science to inform the wisdom of Eastern philosophy.

The middle way also means working together to make practical and responsible health decisions. This new paradigm is one of equality and partnership in medicine, rather than an authority telling the patient what to do. When the patient is empowered and taught how to take control over their mind and body, radical shifts occur. She feels this requires an orientation of curiosity and the willingness to question one's assumptions about what it means to be healthy.

Dr. Kalstein creates a therapeutic space in each encounter, allowing the patient’s own vital energy to restore harmony and balance. She is most interested in helping patients prevent disease, rewire their neurobiology and live authentically in alignment with their values.
