Jennifer Brand, MPH, MS, CNS

Integrative, Functional and Clinical Nutritionist located in Santa Monica, CA

“All disease begins in the gut“ -Hippocrates

Jennifer Brand is an integrative, functional and clinical nutritionist with a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, a Masters Degree in Public Health, a Masters Degree in Human Nutrition, and she is a Certified Nutrition Specialist.

Symptoms are tied to systems, and all systems in the body are connected. Jennifer uses her strong biochemistry background to connect these dots to identify and address root cause issues to help her clients meet their health and wellness goals. This is the functional medicine approach. By taking into account her clients’ unique biochemistry (guided by functional testing and thorough case history review), Jennifer addresses underlying imbalances that contribute to ill health and disease, and she uses functional nutrition to address those imbalances with natural means. Intervention protocols are holistic to take into account the whole person (mind, body and spirit), and include diet, lifestyle and supplement recommendations, as well as care coordination with other treatment modalities, and conventional medical practices.

Jennifer sees clients of all ages, and specializes in chronic and complex conditions that have not resolved by conventional means. A common thread in such cases involves imbalances in gut health and digestive function, which are often overlooked as underlying causes of ill health and disease. In fact, whether you have low energy, fatigue, resistant weight loss, unexplained weight gain, hormone imbalances, mood and psychiatric disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, digestive issues (gas, bloating, pain, diarrhea, constipation, reflux, SIBO), skin problems (eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, acne), allergies, asthma, autoimmune disease, diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, vascular disease, arthritis, sleep disturbances and insomnia, or other chronic, complex conditions, impaired gut health and digestive function may be involved.

Jennifer’s career began with a focus on public health, health education, and program development, implementation and evaluation. In this capacity she worked for non-profit organizations including the National Stroke Association, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, and the ALS Association. She then transitioned to project management, account management, and consulting for IMS Health (now IQVIA), a healthcare “big data” analytics and business intelligence firm. Recognizing her true passion, nutrition, Jennifer returned to the classroom in 2013 to obtain her second Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, CT, and opened her private nutrition practice. Jennifer collaborates with practitioners locally, and nationally, to provide integrative, functional and clinical nutrition consulting and coaching services to those with chronic, complex conditions, as well as to those looking to optimize their already good health.

"Your nutritional needs are as unique as your fingerprint, and they are dictated by your individual biochemistry. As an integrative, functional and clinical nutritionist, I can help you interpret your body's nutrient needs and customize a plan to reach your health and wellness goals. This is personalized nutrition."
